Oxygen Efficient Trees: Changing the Way You Breath!
|
All over the world pollution continues to be a growing threat to the health of the population. In places such as Indonesia and China, people are forced to wear face masks in order to remain safe. A quick solution to this problem would be to plant more oxygen producing plants such as trees. Unfortunately, trees take years to grow. Our project would change the rate at which trees grow as well as the amount of oxygen produced. |
Project Idea:
Our idea is to combine the DNA of a bamboo plant with the DNA of a high oxygen producing plant such as the Conifer. This would create a faster growing and more resilient tree that would produce large amounts of Oxygen in a polluted area. Since Bamboo plants can virtually grow anywhere, this makes it the ideal plant to combine with the Conifer tree. Ideally, these trees would be available in all areas of the world. However, we are specifically targeting the more polluted countries such as: Indonesia, China, and India.
Another line of our product would incorporate the same gene splicing technique into the indigenous trees of the targeted areas. This would allow for less bamboo infestation. We researched bamboo and found that it is one of the most invasive plant species, its ability to grow rapidly in a variety of climates causes it to overrun the indigenous plants of an area.
